      <image:title>Artists - Low Saelee</image:title>
<image:caption>My name is Low Saelee. I am a tattoo artist. I was born in a refugee camp in Thailand in 1984. I currently reside in Sacramento, California. After immigrating to the united States of America, My family moved around the west coast establishing roots in Washington and Alaska. And finally settling in California. I’ve been drawing and making art for as long as I can remember. I was also brought up in Hip Hop culture and am a practitioner of the art of Bboying also known as Break Dancing. Tattooing resonated with me because I saw it as not only a way to apply my talents in art professionally; but to use it to help people express themselves with imagery adorning their skin for life. <image:title>Low Saelee - “Mekong”</image:title>
<image:caption>by Low Saelee Many Mien lives were lost while crossing the Mekong river in their attempts to escape from the threat of death and persecution. The Lotus flower is regarded in many different cultures, especially in Asian religions, as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. The hand represents the spirit of the lives lost in the Mekong River while escaping. The red thread, decorated with colorful beads is referenced from my grandma’s beadwork from a baby’s hat she hand-sowed years ago. It’s shown broken to represent the changes and challenges that families would have to endure and the unknown they would have to adapt to. I wanted to make a piece to represent the struggles and lives lost while escaping persecution</image:caption>
